DPS Elementary Poetry

5 Poetry Books.jpg

This website promotes the Denver Public Schools elementary poetry anthologies. There have been five volumes published, presenting wonderful poems by Denver students from Kindergarten to fifth grade.

We are currently preparing for a new volume for 2017!
Where to submit poems: please submit student poems to Steve Replogle at steven_replogle@dpsk12.org. You may alternatively send hard copies to Steve Replogle, Bromwell Elementary School through district mail. You may send originals or copies; originals will be handled respectfully and returned promptly.

Regarding submissions: poems should be original and come from elementary students (only grades K-5). Teachers and schools should self-select 5-10 poems for submission, but Steve and his editorial team can make those choices if that is helpful. We'll print as many as we can!
Regarding poems: there is no theme. There are no mandated topics, genres, or poetic forms or styles. Students may write about whatever subject they choose, in any way, style, or format they prefer. Legibility or readability is important, translations from Spanish and other languages are helpful, and accompanying artwork (using any medium) is very welcome.
Permission forms: if possible, please have submitting students send in a permission form signed by a parent. This will allow us to legally print their full names in the book when it is published. Otherwise we can only print their first names, and the feeling of achievement is not quite as personal. Permission forms are below in English and Spanish.

Questions, comments, or suggestions? Contact Steve by e-mail. The deadline for submissions is Valentine's Day, February 14th. Publication is scheduled for May, 2017.

At this site, you'll find selections from our previous anthologies, as well as other materials.
